Its not your normal weekend.. heading out to the forest to find a disused iron mine, getting dressed up, and partying like.. well.. like it’s Halloween..
We spent the weekend in the Forest of Dean, heading out to Clearwell Caves, a disused Iron Mine for one of the most fantastic parties of the year. The main cave lit entirely by candle light, a live band – Centre of Attraction was amazing, live DJ, barbecue, and enough ghouls ghosts, vampires and un-dead to seem like the end of the world is just around the corner.
The trip down into the caves was quite steep and narrow, starting at a brick tunnel, into a smaller cavern, past the underground lake, down through a very narrow low ceilinged tunnel, before ending up in entrance to the main cavern
The costumes for the evening were really excellent, everyone made a huge effort. Every possible ghoul and ghost, animal and beast, witch and warlock was there, and a few really cleaver costumes. I have some video of this guy to put up in his cartoon neon costume which allowed him to wink, blink, smile and more in the darkness.
Funny enough I don’t actually look normally like Nosferatu, although I seemed to get a lot of attention, possibly my new bald look which took about 2 hours to put on with some expert help from Michelle. My face is still a little dry from the spirit gum, latex, rubber and makeup today, and I’m still terribly tired from the whole mammoth party, but it was worth every bit..
Its hard to describe exactly just how good the weekend was, because unless you’ve been in an old iron mine cave partying with 350 people.. you wont really get the idea of just how good it is, but to try and get a rough idea, you can have a look at my flickr photoset
